Pumas demand better against All Blacks

Argentina's players say they are well versed these days with the high-octane style of New Zealand rugby.

Combating it for 80 minutes is the next big challenge, especially at Test level.

The Pumas will look to bounce back from a disappointing tour of Australasia on Saturday when they host an unbeaten New Zealand side who have already been crowned Rugby Championship winners.

The South Americans' last-start 36-20 loss to Australia in Perth was a let-down, coming a week after they had put up a staunch challenge against New Zealand for 50 minutes.

Their late capitulation in the 57-22 loss in Hamilton won't be forgotten when they take the field at Velez Sarsfield in Buenos Aires says first five-eighth Santiago Gonzalez Iglesias.

"We have to play the perfect match and extend it in time," he told the Argentina Rugby website.

"I think we have to play an intelligent game, not burn it all in the first half."

Gonzalez Iglesias says while depth sets the All Blacks apart, their desire to maintain New Zealand's proud Test record is also apparent.

He says there are parallels between how the All Blacks play to the methods of the five Kiwi Super Rugby franchises.

"On the field is similar because all the teams play with that style and the quality of players is the same," he said.

"The difference is that they give more when they play in the All Blacks. They are the world's greatest with a winning record that is tremendous."

Despite his comments, Gonzalez Iglesias says his team must ensure the visitors aren't placed on a pedestal.

They should instead embrace the support of a 50,000-strong crowd at a venue where the All Blacks struggled in their last appearance, a 25-19 win over the Pumas in 2006.

Both teams will be named on Thursday.
