The search for the crocodile which fatally attacked New Zealand-born tourist Cindy Waldron in far north Queensland will be wrapped up on Friday.

Police say they are continuing investigations but are about to conclude the search after setting three traps since Ms Waldron, 46, was taken at Thornton Beach on Sunday night.

An estuarine crocodile was caught in one trap on Thursday but further examination is required after the contents of the croc were unidentifiable.
