Quake rattles Canterbury

Canterbury has been rattled by a 4.8-magnitude earthquake.

The "strong" quake hit 20km southwest of Cheviot at a depth of 10km just before 10.20am on Wednesday, Geonet says.

More than 1150 people reported feeling the quake, mainly around Cheviot, Christchurch and Banks Peninsula.
