World No.1 Lydia Ko sits four strokes off the searing opening pace set by Japanese golfer Ayako Uehara at the NW Arkansas Championship in Rogers, Arkansas.

Ko's five-under 66 included four birdies and an eagle at the par-five seventh, and was marred only by a bogey at the par-four eighth to leave her in a share of 16th place with six others.

Uehara was unstoppable in firing nine birdies for a record-equalling opening round 62 at the three-round tournament.

The tournament's 18-hole scoring record was set in 2008 by Jane Park and Angela Park.

Ranked 214th in the world, Uehara leads America-based Taiwanese golfer Candie Kung by two strokes.

Thirteen others are grouped a further shot back on six-under 65 in a tie for third.
