Aucklander Matt Quinn's 11-wicket haul has helped bowl Essex into a winning position on day three of their county championship division two match against Gloucestershire.

Quinn, 23, took 7-61 as competition leaders Essex dismissed Gloucestershire for 255 in their first innings, backing that up with 4-87 as the home team were bowled out for 290 in their second innings.

Among his victims, in both innings, were fellow Kiwis Hamish Marshall and Kieran Noema-Barnett.

Right-armer Quinn, who had never previously taken a five-wicket bag, is a former New Zealand age group representative who made his Auckland debut three years ago.

Essex closed the penultimate day on 16-1, needing a further 197 runs for victory.

Meanwhile, in Twenty20 action, New Zealand medium-pacer Matt Henry's 3-15 helped Worcestershire to a five-wicket win over Warwickshire while Black Caps skipper Kane Williamson looked solid in compiling 39 off 34 balls in his last match for Yorkshire as they lost by three wickets to Nottinghamshire.

Ross Taylor, who will be joining Williamson for the Black Caps' tour of Zimbabwe and South Africa later this week, fine-tuned with an unbeaten 46 from 47 balls for Sussex as they stuttered to a one-run defeat against Hampshire.
