Aucklanders Gabrielle Fa'amausili and Yeonsu Lee appear set to dominate the New Zealand age group swimming championships for the second straight year.

The 17-year-olds, who claimed 11 titles between them last year, were in record-breaking form on the opening night of finals in Wellington.

World junior champion Fa'amausili won the 100m freestyle in 56.21 seconds, eclipsing the national record for her age set by Kiwi great Lauren Boyle in 2005.

Fellow-New Zealand representative Lee won the 200m butterfly in 2min 14.39sec, which was which took 1.31sec off the previous mark set in 2010 by Wellington's Samantha Lee.

Nearly 700 swimmers from more than 100 clubs are competing at the four-day meet, with the selectors scouting for talent to compete at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
