Red-carded Barrett to face judiciary

Intentionally offending twice has earned a contrite Beauden Barrett a date with SANZAAR's judiciary.

The Hurricanes first five-eighth was sent off with two minutes remaining for a second incidence of deliberately halting a NSW Waratahs attack through a knockdown during Friday's Super Rugby win in Wellington.

Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd sought to clarify whether the red card will result in an automatic one-week ban for the reigning World Rugby Player of the Year.

His understanding was that it will not, although that won't be officially determined until the competition's foul play review committee meets on Sunday.

Barrett, who enjoyed a sizzling night on attack in the 38-28 win, admits he will need to address his technique when trying to pull off intercepts.

"Potentially I need to work on bringing my palms up," he told reporters.

"Hopefully I can learn from it."
