Regions reaping tourist dollars

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 9/11/2016

Tourism spending in the regions is continuing to rise, with Nelson at the top of the list with a 13 per cent increase to $311 million in the year to September.

Otago was second with a 12 per cent increase and $3.3 billion, followed by Auckland up nine per cent to $7.4b.

Associate Tourism Minister Paula Bennett says the latest figures reflect the record number of visitors coming to New Zealand this year.

"The tourism sector is experiencing exceptional growth, which is bringing more jobs and spending in our regional economies," she said on Thursday.
