NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 8/05/2016

New Zealand Quentin Rew has set a new national record over 20km at the world race walking team championships in Rome.

Rew clocked 1hr 21min 54sec in finishing 26th, bettering the previous mark of 1:22.18 he set at last year's world championships in Beijing when he finished 17th.

The 31-year-old Wellingtonian has already been selected for the Rio Olympics later this year in the 50km road walk, where he will be chasing Craig Barrett's 15-year-old national record of 3:48.04.

Rew's best stands at 3:48.48, also set at last year's world championships.
