Bayern Munich have extended Franck Ribery's contract by a year until 2018, the Bundesliga champions announced on Sunday.

The 33-year-old's previous deal was due to expire in the summer, but the Frenchman, who arrived from Marseille in 2007, will continue wearing a red shirt through to the following summer.

"I'm delighted to be able to play on another year for Bayern," Ribery said.

"This amazing club and the city have become my home, both sportingly and privately.

"I am really looking forward to even more beautiful times together with the Bayern fans and I would like to play my art in ensuring the next year and a half will be successful."

Ribery has made 333 appearances for the German champions, scoring 108 goals.

He was named UEFA's Best Player in Europe in 2013, when he also won the Champions League with the Bavarians, providing the assist to Arjen Robben for the winning goal in the Wembley final against Borussia Dortmund.

"Six Bundesliga titles, five DFB-Pokals, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup - Bayern's great successes in recent years have been synonymous with the name Franck Ribery," said Bayern's chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

"He is a key player and a fans' favourite rolled into one. We are therefore delighted that we have been able to extend Franck's contract by another year."
