Road spikes stop teens in stolen taxi

Two Hamilton girls are facing aggravated robbery charges after allegedly assaulting a taxi driver and then stealing the vehicle.

Police say road spikes were used and the taxi was eventually stopped near the city's central police station on Tuesday night.

The 15-year-old driver was processed for excess breath alcohol and has been charged with aggravated robbery, dangerous driving and failing to stop. The 17-year-old passenger has been charged with aggravated robbery.

Both are due to appear in Hamilton Youth Court on Wednesday.
