Roar, City to host first A-League finals

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 10/04/2016 Emma Kemp

Brisbane and Melbourne City have been confirmed as hosts for week one of the A-League finals series, while Western Sydney have earned a rest and home semi-final.

A tight table ensured the top four spots would not be set in stone until the end of final regular-season round.

The Wanderers snuck into second place with a 2-0 win in Wellington on Sunday, joining Premiers Plate winners Adelaide United as semi-finals hosts in a fortnight.

But the most unlikely result came back in Australia in the very last game, when a 10-man Sydney FC put a spanner in Perth's works at Allianz Stadium.

The Sky Blues' 4-0 upset of the fifth-placed Glory stopped them leapfrogging fourth-placed City and subsequently earning a home elimination final next weekend.

Instead of hosting City at nib Stadium on Sunday, Kenny Lowe's men will now have to travel to AAMI Park.

For John van `t Schip's side, it means avoiding a nightmare return to Perth where they were slayed 3-2 just two weeks ago.

Brisbane, who failed to capitalise on a golden opportunity to claim the Premiers Plate on Saturday against Melbourne Victory, will host Melbourne Victory on Friday night at Suncorp Stadium.

Friday, April 15 - Brisbane (3rd) v Melbourne Victory (6th) at Suncorp Stadium - 7:35pm (AEST)

Sunday, April 17 - Melbourne City (4th) v Perth (5th) at AAMI Park - 5:00pm (AEST)

Friday, April 22 - Adelaide (1st) v lowest-ranked qualifier at Coopers Stadium

Sunday, April 24 - Western Sydney (2nd) v highest-placed qualifier at Pirtek Stadium
