A space launch from New Zealand nears.

Rocket Lab, the American-New Zealand aerospace company, opens a 10-day launch attempt window from 9am on Monday for its Electron rocket.

The company has built a launch pad on the Mahia Peninsula.

"After four years of planning, innovation and discovery we will soon attempt to launch a vehicle into orbit," the company said on Facebook on Friday.

During the launch window postponements are expected as optimal conditions are required to proceed to launch, the company said.

As part of the launch attempt, Mahia East Coast Road will be closed to the general public from 9am to 8pm on Monday.

Subsequent road closures will be notified following any decision to scrub a launch attempt.

The public are asked to follow the instructions of emergency services and remain in safe areas during the test launch.
