Roma have won the battle for second place in Serie A, beating AC Milan 1-0 to move three points clear of the Rossoneri and four behind league leader Juventus.

Radja Nainggolan scored the only goal shortly after an hour.

Roma goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny saved a first-half penalty from M'Baye Niang.

Both Roma and Milan were locked on 32 points going into the match in Rome, who made a frantic start.

In the earlier match, Fiorentina defeated Sassuolo 2-1.

Nikola Kalinic ended his goalscoring drought at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in style with a first-half double for Fiorentina.

Kalinic had scored twice for Fiorentina at home in the Europa League this season but all his six goals in the league had come on the road.

The Croatia forward hadn't found the back of the net at the Franchi in Serie A since a 2-1 defeat to Juventus in April.
