Roma players threatened with mock hanging

Mannequins wearing replica jerseys of three Roma players were found hanging from a pedestrian walkway near the Colosseum.

Mannequins of Roma players have been hanged from a pedestrian bridge near the Colosseum, under a banner warning them to keep the lights on when they sleep, in a sinister incident the police are investigating.

In a video posted on YouTube, a group of 20-30 people can be seen unfolding the banner against the backdrop of Rome's famous landmark.

Three of the mannequins placed under the banner were kitted with the shirts of midfielders Daniele De Rossi and Radja Nainggolan and winger Mohamed Salah, while a fourth wore a jersey with no number.

It is unclear whether the stunt was pulled by angry supporters of Roma or by fans of their city rivals Lazio, who are fresh from a 3-1 derby victory, and eliminated their bitter foes in the Italian Cup semi-finals in March.

The ANSA news agency said Carabinieri police were leading investigations in to the affair and reported, quoting club sources, that Roma have no plans to file charges or make public statements on what happened.
