New Zealand trap shooter Nadine Stanton gets a long-awaited crack at Rio revenge when she competes at the shotgun World Cup final in Rome.

Olympic silver medallist Rooney is in a 10-woman trap field which also features Australian Catherine Skinner, who pipped her for gold in a dramatic shoot-off in Rio two months ago.

While 28-year-old Rooney was thrilled to secure New Zealand's first medal of the Games, she was irked to have fallen short of gold after leading early in the decider against Skinner.

The Timaru shooter has enjoyed a breakthrough 18 months, having headed off Skinner to win the Oceania title in Sydney.

She has climbed to second in the world rankings behind the Australian.

Rooney hasn't hit those heights previously at World Cup level.

Her best result is third in Acapulco last year while she placed ninth at the subsequent World Cup final in Nicosia, Cyprus.

Also in this week's field are defending champion Alessandra Perilli of San Marino and two-time world champion Corey Cogdell of the United States.
