A Rotorua man facing arson and injuring with intent charges will face an uphill battle to get bail, a judge has warned.

Shiva Lachman Anand, 33, appeared via video link before Judge Phillip Cooper in Rotorua District Court on Wednesday and was remanded in custody until July 7.

His lawyer, Harry Edward, said Anand faced an additional earlier charge of assault.

The arson and injury charges stem for a house fire in Rotorua's King Street on June 7.
