Rotorua gang brawl trial two years on

© Getty Eight men who face charges following a Rotorua gang brawl the required an armed police response will go on trial nearly two years later.

In the High Court at Rotorua on Wednesday Justice Sarah Katz set November 13 for the start of their four week trial, after the start date last month was abandoned.

Robert Dashwood, George Robert Jolley, Christopher John Jolley, Chadwick Tamahou Matapuku, Cramer Tana McMeeking, Daniel Tere McMeeking, Waimarama Horomana Te Kani and Major Wetini face various charges following the brawl in Western Heights in December 2015.

George Jolley faces the most serious charge, attempted murder.

Between them the group face 32 charges, including offences involving firearms and each is charged with participating in an organised criminal group.

Dashwood, George and Christopher Jolley are being remanded in custody but have electronically monitored bail applications before the court. The remainder have already been released on electronic bail.
