The Hawke's Bay Regional Council (HBRC) has agreed to undergo an independent review of the Ruataniwha Water Storage Scheme, in a meeting on Wednesday.

Councillors voted to commission a review the scheme, including the impacts and consequences if a new direction was given.

The chairman of the HBRC, Rex Graham, said whatever the Council decides there will be serious consequences and it is important it is fully informed before making any future decisions on the scheme.

The group manger of strategic development, James Palmer, is due to report back to Council on November 20 with detailed advice on the work to be included in the review, resource implications, the time it will take and whether any external advice will be needed.
