The 37-year-old actor and 36-year-old pop star met backstage with Ellen, 60 while taping appearances airing on Friday.

Britney wore a short maroon dress for her appearance on the chat show while Ryan kept it casual in a sweater, jeans and blue jacket.

Ellen asked Ryan how long it's been since he's seen Britney and he admitted they both couldn't remember.

'That's a sign that it's been quite a while,' he said.

Ellen then asked Ryan about his first impression of Britney.

'I remember when we first got to the show. They had all the kids perform for one another. I remember it was Christina Aguilera and then Britney performed,' Ryan recalled.

'I remember thinking, 'Oh, OK, they are like freakishly talented'',' he told Ellen. 'That was another level'.

Ryan was appearing on the chat show to promote his new movie The First Man.
