Ryder in the runs again for Essex

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 26/07/2016

Successive lively knocks from Jesse Ryder have helped propel Essex to the best one-day record in the English county cricket season.

New Zealand allrounder Ryder struck 50 off 50 balls in a four-wicket win against Glamorgan in Chelmsford.

Chasing the visitors' imposing 324-8, Ryder was the dominant partner in an 82-run second-wicket partnership with opener Nick Browne (99) as Essex reached their target in the final over.

It comes two days after the unwanted Black Cap blasted 131 off 110 balls in a home loss to Surrey.

Essex lead the nine-team south group with two rounds remaining and are assured of a place in the quarter-finals.

Their record of four wins, one loss and one tie is better than any team in the north group.
