Safety campaign targets foreign drivers

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 25/11/2016

A major road safety campaign aimed at helping visitors understand and prepare for driving in New Zealand is underway.

Associate Transport Minister Craig Foss says summer will bring many foreign drivers and roads can be challenging, particularly in some of the most popular tourist spots.

The campaign is focused on Otago, Southland and the West Coast.

It uses billboards, posters, digital advertising and social media to spread road safety messages.

The messages include:

* Roads can be narrow, winding and steep - allow extra time

* Journeys may take longer than you think

* Save overtaking for long, clear, straight roads

* Pull over somewhere safe to take photos.
