Saints and Rangers through to NBL final

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 3/06/2016

Wellington Saints will face Super City Rangers in the domestic NBL decider after the top qualifiers and defending champions were both eliminated in the semi-finals in Invercargill.

Two contrasting semi-final results set up a final on Saturday between two teams laden with quality players who hadn't always delivered during the regular season.

The Auckland-based Rangers found form to outclass the top-qualifying Canterbury Rams 104-86, ending a three-game losing streak.

NZ Breakers guard Corey Webster sank 28 points for the winners and United States centre Terrence Roberts 25 points while while Lindsay Tai offered 18 points and 10 rebounds.

McKenzie Moore scored 35 for the Rams, ending a fine season for the import guard.

The Saints then squeezed past the defending Southland Sharks 79-75 in a clash of last year's two finalists.

The Saints advanced to a third successive final on the back of a staunch defensive display and 21 points from last year's MVP Torrey Craig, who also snared 12 rebounds.
