One San Diego police officer was killed and another was wounded during a late-night, downtown shooting Thursday, authorities said.

One person was taken into custody after the 11 p.m. attack, but cops are still hunting for a second possible gunman, police told NBC San Diego.

The wounded cop was rushed to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery, officials said. He is in serious condition.

Neither officer has been identified.

"Keep them in your prayers," San Diego police wrote on Twitter.

The late-night shooting was in the Southcrest neighborhood, in the southeastern part of the city.

Police have advised residents in the area to shelter in place as the search continues.
