School kids to drink Vic milk for farmers

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 24/08/2016

Victorian school children will drink Victorian milk from 2017 instead of imported New Zealand product as the government tries to support struggling local dairy farmers.

The Pactum Dairy Group in Shepparton will be the sole supplier of milk for the state's School Breakfast Clubs program from 2017, it was announced on Wednesday.

The new arrangement means up to 25,000 disadvantaged children in 500 primary schools will be drinking Victorian milk from next year, with Labor stating 400,000 litres will be purchased, benefiting 130 Murray Goulburn farmers.
