Schools reopen after Auckland lockdown

Police have begun reopening cordons in Auckland after the suburb of Remuera went into lockdown over reports of an injured woman.

Remuera Kindergarten, St Kentigern Junior School and Remuera Intermediate had all earlier closed as a precaution, while a police chopper and the Armed Offenders Squad scanned the area.

The lockdown was triggered after police received a callout to Woodley Avenue at 12.30pm from a man saying a woman had been hurt on the street.

Inspector Andy King said police had still not found the woman.

Despite this, authorities were clearing Woodley Avenue and had given the three schools the green light to reopen.

Insp King said no gun shots had been fired and there were no reports of any other unusual behaviour in the area.
