Scott Dixon seventh at Indianapolis GP

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 15/05/2016

New Zealand driver Scott Dixon has lost further ground on runaway IndyCar series leader Simon Pagenaud following a seventh placing at the Grand Prix of Indianapolis.

Frenchman Pagenaud won his third successive race to open up a sizeable overall advantage on second-placed Dixon, who is the reigning series champion.

Pagenaud inherited the lead when Team Penske team-mate Helio Castroneves pitted with 20 laps to go and ended up beating the Brazilian by 4.4748 second after 82 laps.

The last driver to win three races in a row is Dixon, in 2013, but the Chip Ganassi Racing team driver never threatened to contend on Saturday following early difficulties.

Canadian James Hinchcliffe finished third.

The drivers stay in Indianapolis for the sixth round race, the 100th running of the famed Indy 500 on May 29.

Leading standings: Simon Pagenaud (France) 242pts 1, Scott Dixon (NZ) 166 2, Juan Pablo Montoya (Colombia) 160 3, Helio Castroneves (Brazil) 159 4, Graham Rahal (USA) 133 5.
