Nomads gang associate Palmiro MacDonald, 36, has not been seen since March 23 and police say there may be a sinister element to his disappearance.

A fire destroyed the house he was staying at on the day he vanished and it was reported Nomads gang sources believe he was killed over a drug row with the Head Hunters gang.

Detective Inspector Ross McKay says rumours of him being found are incorrect.

"We are still very much looking for Mr MacDonald and have serious concerns about his wellbeing, as do his family, given that it has been more than a month since he was last seen."

He says police are keeping an open mind to what happened, and have carried out a number of searches in the Horowhenua area.

"The exact circumstances of Mr MacDonald's disappearance are still unclear, but it is out of character," Det Insp McKay said.

The missing man's family have set up a Facebook page called 'Find Palza'.
