Second big win White Sox at world champs

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 16/07/2016

New Zealand have coasted to a second comfortable pool win at the women's softball world championship in Canada, beating Peru 7-0.

Following a 28-0 romp inside three innings against Kenya in their opening game at Surrey near Vancouver, the White Sox needed five innings to beat another team making their tournament debut.

The scores were locked 0-0 through the first two innings before New Zealand scored a single in the third. Five runs in their fourth turn at bat virtually secured the result before another single in the fifth.

They gave up one hit against Peru's batting line up.

Eighth-ranked New Zealand are expected to face their sternest pool phase challenge in the final round, against ninth-ranked Italy on Sunday.

Both teams are already guaranteed a place in the final 16 at the 31-nation tournament.
