Second person hit on Auckland rail

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 30/05/2016

A person has been left with life-threatening injuries and Auckland's rail network disrupted in the city's second train accident of the day.

The pedestrian was struck by a train near Middlemore Station at about 6pm on Tuesday, causing delays on the city's southern and eastern lines.

The network was still dealing with delays and disruptions after 8pm and Auckland Transport was left apologising after being unable to provide buses to replace services.

The victim has been taken to nearby Middlemore Hospital in critical condition, a police spokeswoman said.

Earlier in the day, a person died after being hit by a train in Glen Innes at about 7am.
