Second rescue in Waitakere Ranges

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 14/05/2016

A teen injured in the weekend's second tramping accident in the Waitakere Ranges is set to be rescued.

The 17-year-old girl, who was part of a six-person group on the Twin Peak Track, injured her hip and knee while walking late on Saturday night.

Police said as the group were well-equipped and the teen was fairly comfortable, rescue teams would get in touch with them on Sunday morning.

Earlier, two people in a group of 22 students and three teachers had be flown to hospital from the Muir Track with hypothermia.

The group had activated their emergency locator beacon, prompting a response by search teams, including a rescue helicopter.

The remainder of the party stayed the night in Karekare.
