Senior cops charged over 'mock arrest'

Two Auckland police officers are to be charged with kidnapping following the mock arrest of a teen aimed at ending an underage relationship, according to a report.

Police have told Inspector Hurimoana Dennis and Sergeant Vaughan Perry they intend to charge them over last year's alleged lock up of a 17-year-old.

The teen later agreed to move to Australia, ending his relationship with a 15-year-old girl, NZME reports.

Both men will defend the charges, their lawyers said, also saying they had acted in accordance with the wishes of the whanau of the young man.

The investigation into Insp Dennis was earlier this year leaked to media by Social Development Minister Paula Bennett's office, which she denied was an attempt to smear his Te Puea Marae.

The marae had been taking in homeless people when the government was under fire over the number of people living on the street.
