Police have concerns for the mental wellbeing of a Chinese tourist who went missing in Auckland on Wednesday.

Yaqin Wu, 60, came to New Zealand with a tour group on Sunday and was staying at the Heartland Hotel in Mangere, but left on Wednesday morning and did not come back.

Police say she had made comments to her group that have caused fears for her wellbeing.

A police ethnic liaison officer has been in constant contact with her family in China while search and rescue teams have been scouring the area around the hotel.

Ms Wu does not speak English and police say she doesn't know anyone in New Zealand.

Anyone who sees her is asked to call Counties Manukau police.
