An 11-year-old boy who was among a group of seven youths - all aged 15 or younger - hurt when a car hit a tree Ngaruawahia has died in Waikato Hospital.

All are from four families and many of them are related, either as siblings or cousins, says Detective Senior Sergeant Stephen Ambler.

The single-vehicle accident happened on Durham Street about 6.30pm on Friday.

All seven in the white Toyota Wish were taken to Waikato Hospital where the six survivors remain on Saturday, one in a critical condition.

"All of the youths are local to the area and our thoughts are with the family and friends of all those involved," Det Sen Sgt Ambler says.

Police are asking anyone who saw the car between 5pm and 6.15pm on Friday within Ngaruawahia township.
