Lucy Lawless wasn't the only high profile Kiwi to appear on the popular 90s TV series Xena: Warrior Princess, with MP Simon Bridges making an on screen debut.

Mr Bridges admitted he played an extra of Asian descent on the action show which was filmed in New Zealand and ran from 1995-2001.

"I used to get my shirt off, I don't do that now," he said at a film industry funding press conference on Friday.

He stood alongside Maggie Barry, the Arts, Culture and Heritage Minister, who had her own long running gardening show from 1991-2003.

MP Nikki Kaye was on a documentary Fish Out of Water in 1996, when a TV crew stranded her and five other teenagers on Rakitu Island in Auckland's Hauraki Gulf.
