Shop owner fights off would-be robbers

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 17/05/2016

The owner of a jewellery store has managed to fight off two men who tried to raid his store in Orewa.

The would-be robbers entered Goldsmith Jewellers on Monday afternoon and demanded cash, but the store's owner scuffled with the duo and pushed them out onto the street.

The men left empty-handed, and they fled to a car in a nearby supermarket car park.

The owner's shirt was torn and he received scratches in the confrontation.

Both men are described as Maori, and one man, believed to be in his early 20s, has a large build, is about 183cm tall, and was wearing a white T-shirt, blue shorts and jandals, and maybe a cap.

The other man was described as slim and 160cm tall.

Police urge anyone who saw the men, or local store owners with CCTV, to contact them.
