NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 22/07/2016

New Zealand's medal tally at the junior track cycling world championships in Switzerland stands at five following strong rides from Southland pair Bradly Knipe and Ellesse Andrews.

Knipe was beaten into silver in the final of the 1000m time trial by Canada's Stefan Fitter, having been overtaken near the end to lose by 0.2sec.

Wanaka cyclist Andrews, also 16, earned bronze in the women's 2000m individual pursuit - her second medal of the championships at Aigle. She won gold with Emma Cumming in the team sprint on the opening day.

Andrews' time in the ride for bronze was 2min 22.695sec, just 0.28sec off the world record set in qualifying by Russian Maria Novolodskaya, who went on to win gold.
