Edge has coached at a variety of levels since her international retirement in 1995 but says working with the Pulse in the inaugural six-team league will be her biggest challenge yet.

"We've got a new coach, a new assistant coach, new players, young players and Silver Ferns, so it's a matter of making it all come together for the on-court performances," she said.

"Hopefully, I'll have a little bit of input in what will be challenging but exciting times."

Edge played 94 Tests across a decade with the Silver Ferns and was captain for her last two years. In her prime, she was regarded as the world's premier centre.

She has held development and high performance coaching roles and most recently has enjoyed success at age group level.

Pulse head coach is Edge's former Silver Ferns teammate Yvette McCausland-Durie, who has replaced Tanya Dearns.

Edge will focus on attack, with McCausland-Durie to oversee defence.
