Former Central Pulse coach Yvette McCausland-Durie has been named Silver Ferns assistant coach.

McCausland-Durie, who coached New Zealand's under-21 team to silver at the World Youth Cup in 2009, will work alongside new Silver Ferns coach Janine Southby.

She was also assistant coach for the national under-21 team which won world youth gold in 2005, and currently coaches the Netball Central team in the second-tier Beko Netball League.

She coached the Pulse in the trans-Tasman league from 2009-11

Netball New Zealand head of high performance Steve Lancaster says it's pleasing to secure a coach with extensive experience at all levels of the game in New Zealand.

He said McCausland-Durie has over 10 years' high performance coaching experience as part of Netball NZ's high performance coach pathway, and is a graduate of High Performance Sport NZ's coach accelerator programme.

McCausland-Durie says she is looking forward to supporting Southby.

"I believe the Silver Ferns are the pinnacle women's sport brand in New Zealand and it's an exciting time to be involved."
