Scottish rockers Simple Minds and new wave darlings The B-52s are combining for a tour of New Zealand and Australia early next year.

Simple Minds revealed Australia is a special place for them, giving the group its first hit single (Love Song) and then first gold album, New Gold Dream (81/82/83/84) in 1982.

"It's been said Simple Minds has a love affair with Australia and I think that's true," the band's frontman Jim Kerr said.

"It was the first country anywhere in the world to give us success and from our very first tours, we've always had a wonderful bond with Australian audiences. We have so many fantastic memories and can't wait to be playing there again."

Simple Minds released its 16th album in 2014, Big Music, to critical acclaim and last toured Australia four years ago.

The B-52s, famous for infectious '90s hits Love Shack and Roam, released its last original album Funplex in 2008.
