Two of New Zealand's most accomplished performers, the pair will succeed Dave Edwards, whose 10-year tenure as national coach and convener of selectors ends after the world championships in Christchurch in November.

Sims and Bellis have both worked under Edwards in a national capacity.

Sims, 64, will be the national lead coach, with Whanganui great Bellis, 65, her assistant.

Both three-time world champions, they will share the selection duties.

Bowls NZ chief executive Kerry Clark says their promotion was a natural one for the sake of continuity after Edwards announced he was taking up a coaching post in Queensland.

"Their bowls experience makes them an obvious choice for the job," Clark said.

"While their past exploits on the green are as good as you can get, it it is actually the off-green components that make their appointments critical ones."

Two new assistant coaches will be appointed after the world championships.
