Singer Adele has scooped prizes for both best album and best song of the year at the BBC Music Awards.

Winning the top slots for her recent album, 25, and her chart-topping track Hello, she became the most decorated artist in the event's three-year history on Monday night.

But the 28-year-old was unable to attend the live event at London's ExCeL in person, allowing singers Robbie Williams and Geri Horner to pick up the awards on her behalf.

Also unable to attend was much-loved UK band Coldplay, who accepted the award for British artist of the year all the way from Melbourne.

Speaking via video as they stepped on to the stage for another A Head Full Of Dreams Tour show, frontman Chris Martin said: "We just got told about winning this beautiful award and we are sorry we're not there, we are about to go on stage in Australia."
