Slip-affected homes given all clear

A slip below three homes in the Wellington suburb of Kingston has been deemed far enough away for residents to return.

About 10 people were evacuated from the Halifax Rd properties just after 8am Friday morning after one side of the hill below the homes tumbled down.

Wellington City Council spokesman Richard MacLean says after a geotechnical engineer assessed the situation, it was deemed the slip would not affected the homes.

"The residents of 20-24 Halifax Rd have been given the all-clear to return to their homes," Mr MacLean said.

"The surrounding hillside has not been compromised by the slip."

An EQC engineer will be on site Friday afternoon to talk with affected residents about how to make a claim.

This land slip comes following heavy rain brought on by the remnants of Cyclone Debbie, which caused a number of slips across Wellington on Thursday, including one in Newtown that ruptured a gas line.
