Slow start for Ko in Michigan

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 26/05/2016

World No.1 Lydia Ko has made another slow start, stuttering to a one-under 71 at the LPGA tournament in Michigan.

Starting on the back nine at the Travis Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor, Ko bogeyed the par four 11th before picking up birdies at the 13th and 16th to turn one under the card.

She was steady without being spectacular over the front nine, birdieing the par five sixth before slipping off in closing with a bogey to sit in a tie for 20th.

Ko is seven shots off the pace set by clubhouse leader Christina Kim's eight-under 64, one stroke ahead of Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn.

Coming back from a three-week competitive break last week at the Kingsmill Championship in Williamsburg, Ko overcame a rusty two-over opening round which left her in 81st place to finish 18th.
