Socceroo Jackson Irvine has scored in Burton Albion's 1-1 draw against Preston North End in England's second-tier Championship.

Preston, with Australia's Bailey Wright starting in the midfield, came from behind to salvage a point in the first meeting between the sides.

Irvine put his team ahead midway through the first half when the Australian midfielder pounced on a loose ball and fired a low shot under keeper Chris Maxwell from 10 yards out.

Callum Robinson then slotted the equaliser in first-half stoppage time when he slid in at the near post.

It means Burton, who are 19th, remain without an away win in the Championship while Preston sit 12th on the ladder.

In other Championship action, Soceroos captain Mile Jedinak's Aston Villa made it seven games unbeaten under manager Steve Bruce when they beat Cardiff 3-1.
