As the collective response to political instability in the Solomon Islands comes to an end, Police Minister Paula Bennett will visit the nation's capital.

It was created in 2003 as conflict threatened stability in the Pacific Island nation.

"Around 2000 New Zealand Defence Force and New Zealand Police personnel have served as part of RAMSI and we have made a significant contribution to the future of the Solomon Islands through our aid programme," she said.

The programme transitioned from a military to police operation four years ago and the country has invited supporters to a farewell event before it finishes altogether a the end of the month.

Ms Bennett said New Zealand would continue to support Solomon Islanders through police and other programmes.

Police and defence representatives will travel with Ms Bennett.
