South Africa opens two visa centres in NZ

New Zealanders wanting to travel to South Africa will be able to apply for a visa in Auckland as well as in Wellington.

Until now, applicants have needed to travel to the South African High Commission in the capital.

The High Commission says that from Tuesday, two centres run by the company VFS Global will be responsible for receiving all applications.

The decision to end a 20-year visa-free travel arrangement between South Africa and New Zealand was announced in December.

The South African move was in response to an Immigration New Zealand decision to deny entry to visa-less South African travellers.

South Africa's new visa applications centres:

* Auckland - Regus Business Centre, 41 Shortland Street

* Wellington - Regus Wellington, Plimmer Towers, 2-6 Gilmer Terrace.
