South Auckland truck fires suspicious

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 27/05/2017

Fires that destroyed four trucks at a south Auckland's Wholesale Frozen Foods, sparking a major firefighter response, may have been deliberately lit.

Fifteen fire engines and up to 60 firefighters were called to the burning trucks in Takanini on Saturday night.

Fire investigators and police were looking into the cause because there was "some element of suspicion" about the blaze, a Fire Service spokesman says.

Only the trucks were burned and there was no damage to other property.

Firefighters initially thought the flames threatened nearby bulk flammable liquid tanks, but they were further away than first reported, senior station officer Chris Todd told reporters at the scene.
