Southby names Silver Ferns contenders

New Silver Ferns coach Janine Southby has unveiled a group of triallists for two international series this year.

Twenty-eight players will undergo two days of trials in Auckland from August 15, with a squad of 12 named on August 17 to contest the inaugural Netball Quad Series. The series involves Tests against England, South Africa and Australia on both sides of the Tasman from August 27.

Southby will also name a squad to face Jamaica in a three-Test series in September.

There are six players each from the trans-Tasman league's New Zealand conference champions Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic and the runners-up, the Southern Steel.

Veteran centre Laura Langman, who represented the NSW Swifts this season, is the only offshore-based triallist.

Two players have been picked from the second-tier national netball league.
