Spanish police arrest Colombian armed group suspect

Associated Press Associated Press 24/11/2016

MADRID — Spanish police say they have arrested a senior member of a Colombian armed group suspected of being behind several car bombs over a decade ago.

The National Police said in a statement Thursday that the woman, Nibea Aurora Cano, was wanted for her role in three bombings in 2002 and 2003 that killed five police officers and three civilians in Colombia.

The National Court says Cano was a member of the Carlos German Velasco Villamizar Urban Front, which is part of Colombia's No. 2 rebel group, the National Liberation Army.

She was arrested in Ourense. Police say she had been living in Spain since 2004, but still worked for the group.

They said her brother, also a group member, was recently arrested in the Colombian city of Cucuta.
